Carry me down to the river to tell me it hasn’t always been this way
tell me not to hide my reaching eyes tell me that softness rewards softness
baptize me in the knowledge that it is not an impossible thing
not a transgression
to trace the veins of her wrists and love every red blood cell
tell the universe that maybe this is what I deserve this time
a tree of ardor that will grow taller than I am and rustle above my head
I will say “love feels to me like a spring day” and maybe it will be true this time
